A memorable golf trip is about teeing it up on great courses with great friends. But having fun off the course is just as important, and that’s what makes Orlando North, Seminole County the perfect place to plan a golf getaway.
Here in our warm, sunny and beautiful section of Central Florida, you’ll find five picturesque, high-quality public or semi-private golf courses appropriate for all skill levels. They’re all within convenient driving distance of each other, so playing a few (or all!) of them is no problem. Best of all, they don’t come with pricey greens fees you’re sure to find at the courses just south of us in Orlando. Click here for an overview of Seminole County facilities.
Staying here’s just as easy on your wallet. We have an array of brand-name hotels that can easily accommodate you and your partners, or even a big group. They’re affordable, clean and comfortable — and close to area courses. Best of all, they’re the perfect spot for a rejuvenating dip in the pool after a day of driving, chipping and putting.
But the fun doesn’t have to end once you’ve changed out of your spikes. For a can’t-miss evening of dining and drinking, head to Historic Downtown Sanford, which dates back to the 1870s. Most of the district’s restaurants and pubs offer generous outdoor seating. Sanford has three craft breweries contained within a few blocks: Sanford Brewing Company, Wop’s Hops Brewing and Kitchen and Deviant Wolfe Brewing, as well as nearby Celery City Craft, which doesn’t brew its own but has a big selection of Florida-made brews on tap.
Historic Downtown Sanford offers a tantalizing menu of independently owned restaurants, with specialties ranging from steak and fish to fine dining to inexpensive ethnic cuisines. A sampler includes The Smiling Bison, The Old Jailhouse Kitchen & Spirits, The District Eatery Tap & Barrel, The Breezeway, Shantell’s, Hollerbach’s Willow Tree Cafe, and St. Johns River Steak & Seafood.
If you want to spice up your stay with something unique, book a room (or rooms) at the 126-year-old Higgins House, a B&B located downtown. The stately old home, beautifully maintained, has three bedrooms, so the right-size group can easily make it their home for a few days.
Another convenient eating-and-drinking option, with a completely different feel, is Uptown Altamonte in Altamonte Springs. This modern area includes hotels, diverse dining, entertainment and shopping. Within Uptown Altamonte is 37-acre Crane’s Roost Park, the city’s pride and joy, perfect for an after-dinner stroll.
If you’re looking to spend a day off the links, Orlando North is prized for its natural beauty and outdoor activities. For hiking and biking, we have a top-notch trail system that includes Cross Seminole Trail and Seminole Wekiva Trail, and conservation areas like the Geneva Wilderness Area and Lake Jesup Conservation Area. If off-roading is your thing, Little Big Econ State Forest has seven miles of trails and loops.
For paddling or a swim, there’s the easy-flowing, spring-fed Wekiva River, which stays a refreshing 72 degrees year-round. Wekiva Island is a five-acre complex on the river where you can rent kayaks and canoes and get tips for paddling trips. And if you want to drop in a line, our fresh-water lakes and the St. Johns River present some fine fishing opportunities.
Among the most fun adventures you can have in Orlando North — one that’s as “authentic Florida” as it gets — is an airboat ride. Head over to The Black Hammock complex, strap in and enjoy a hair-raising thrill ride around Lake Jesup. Get ready to see some gators!
All of these activities and more will help make for a fantastic and well-rounded visit. So tee up your Orlando North golf getaway today!
