FLORIDA CVB ADOPTS NEW POSITIONING TO CAPITALIZE ON 62 MILLION ORLANDO VISITORS

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. (November 30, 2015) — Disney World is located in Bay Lake, FL, has a mailing address of Lake Buena Vista, FL and yet is most commonly connected to Orlando, which according to Florida Governor Rick Scott draws 62 million of Florida’s nearly 100 million visitors.

Capitalizing on Orlando’s name recognition and its easily identified location near the center of the Florida peninsula, neighboring Seminole County’s Convention & Visitors Bureau has rebranded itself “Orlando North, Seminole County” in their new marketing campaign.  Approved by the Board of County Commissioners in August, the campaign is being launched in advance of the holidays to impact the winter travel season.

The destination has long provided a nature-based alternative to Orlando’s theme parks, but focus group research conducted last year revealed that the name “Seminole County” fell short in providing potential visitors with an accurate understanding of its noteworthy location.

The new brand is being used as a location identifier for the destination, which is positioned just north of Orlando. It will be integrated across all Seminole County Convention and Visitors Bureau platforms — website, social media, advertisements and collateral. Marketing efforts will continue to emphasize the destination’s abundance of natural splendor and wealth of affordable accommodations for budget-savvy travelers.

Orlando North, Seminole County, along with its agency of record, St. Petersburg-based Paradise Advertising, coined the tagline “Do North,” to emphasize Seminole County’s active-lifestyle offerings such as kayaking and ziplining. Further slogans include “Play North” in sports marketing collateral, and “Meet North” for meetings and groups.

“This new brand initiative provides us the opportunity for greater awareness and recognition outside of Central Florida,” said Tricia Setzer, Chief Administrator, Seminole County Office of Economic Development, Community Relations and Tourism. “We feel strongly that it will enable us to build upon the robust tourist traffic the destination is currently enjoying.”
